Set in the historic MacTavish Room—once a ballroom, now a sanctuary for story—the premiere will be more than a screening. It will be a ritual of remembrance, connection, and activation.

Battlegrounds and Backroads was conceived and executed by two Astorian veterans—Sean Davis and Brad Pietzyk—who set out on a road trip across rural Oregon, seeking stories and solutions to the crisis of veteran suicide. What they found was sobering: the death by suicide rate for rural Oregonians is nearly three times that of the general population. The film traces this emotional terrain through poetic voiceover, raw interviews, and regenerative hope.
Rogue Cell’s mission is to foster healing, connection, and community transformation through veteran-led storytelling. By blending documentary filmmaking, radio, podcasting, and live events, Rogue Cell creates spaces where lived experience becomes shared language—and where grief, resilience, and hope can be held together. The organization is rooted in values of authenticity, regeneration, and co-creation, with a focus on elevating voices often left unheard.
The event is free and open to all, with donations gratefully accepted to help take the documentary on the road—bringing its message to more Oregon communities and beyond. Contributions will also support Rogue Cell’s continuing projects, including the Rogue Cell Podcast and Rogue Cell Radio on KMUN, both dedicated to amplifying veteran voices, community resilience, and regenerative storytelling.
