The Great Columbia Crossing 10k

Rogue Cell got a team together and we crossed the great Columbia River on October 12th. We started out at the Astoria High School and I handed out all the Rogue Cell shirts and racing bibs.

We ended up getting to Dismal Nitch (yes, that's really the name of the starting point) around 8am. The Nitch really lived up to its name. The rain was coming at us sideways. My poor niece Allie (who is joining the Air Force very soon) was a champ even though she had no idea that I'd rope her into doing a 10k. She was only just visiting and we had a slot open, so I talked her into it. Poor girl was shivering and her Uggs did not keep her feet from getting soaked.

We had Allie Davis who is just joinging the Air Force, me, an old army vet, Micheal Salisbury a marine vet, Sean Johnson an army vet, Phil Ero and Dan Pickles both Coast Guard vets, and Ralph Fisher a Vietnam Vet.

We had a pretty great group, and when we got there Sean Johnson found some buddies. The Steves are both veterans. One Steve was blind and the other led him through the crowd by holding his cane and walking in front of him. Rogue Cell formed a box around blind Steve and we headed to the bridge.

The runners took off first. Then we started the walk to the Megler Astoria Bridge.

All and all we had a great time. The Steves beat their record by 17 seconds! Then we all headed over to the Astoria Brewing Company and Gary, another of our veterans in Rogue Cell, played music for us. I made sure I bought the first round for talking everyone into being in the race. Ha.

We're always looking for veterans and their family members to join us in these types of fun events. Go to RogueCell.org and sign up for emails or head over to our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/roguecell) and keep up with all the cool stuff we're doing.

Great read! I love how you made the topic so accessible and engaging. Your examples really helped illustrate the points clearly. It’s interesting how attention online can shift fast, just like the Dogecoin price.
